International Student workshop in Ljubljana

STUDENT PARTICIPATION: the candidacy period ends in TWO WEEKS!

The DOCOMOMO International Workshop  – Education to Everybody / Structures in Ljubljana will take place in Majda Vrhovnik Primary School – in Ljubljana , between 24 and 28 August 2018, in the framework of the 15th International DOCOMOMO International – Metamorphosis – The Continuity of Change (28-31 August, 2018, Cankarjev Dom, Cultural and Congress Centre).

The 5-day workshop will focus on the use of generic structures as a design tool, by analysing and elaborating on the 1936-1964 series of standardised corridor-free school buildings designed by the Slovenian Modern Movement architect Emil Navinšek. The iconic 1964-73 Ferantov Vrt hybrid structure by Edvard Ravnikar will be a second reference – both architects are students of the famous Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik. International and interdisciplinary student teams will be challenged to propose sustainable interventions and extensions for one building, that could serve as a model for other of the 38 corridor-free school buildings that Navinšek designed nationwide, and even for the many standardised school buildings in other countries. The workshop will take place in Emil Navinšek’s 1958s Majda Vrhovnik Primary School, right next to Cankarjev Dom, the Docomomo Conference venue. This area was a centre of Roman Emona and has very rich archaeology, which is represented right next to the school, in Ferantov Vrt and in The Republic Square with Cankarjev Dom. The workshop results will be presented to the international audience in the evening of the conference opening day, as well as online.

To participate in the workshop, candidates must register at docomomo2018.si/index.php/student-workshop , before 31 March 2018.

All the info is available at docomomo2018.si

DOCOMOMO International is looking forward for your participation and/or your efforts on spreading this initiative among your academic and professional networks.
